Westway is committed to ensuring that your moving experience is as smooth and stress-free as possible. As moving professionals, we have learned how best to organize and carry out the relocation process and would like to share some tips with you.
We have provided some ideas for trouble-free packing in preparation for your move. Please remember that all packing must be completed by moving day. The only items that should remain unpacked are those that you require immediately before and during your move.
General Moving Tips:

- Pack heavy items in small boxes and light items in larger boxes.
- Have a garage sale to get rid of those items you never use and donate the rest.
- Label each box, identifying its contents and the allocated room in your new residence.
- Keep your pet calm and away from all the activity on moving day by arranging for a friend to watch your pet.
Furniture, Appliances and Personal Items:

- Pack a box with some essential items that you may need upon arrival at your new home. Ask the van foreman to load the box on the van last so that it will be unloaded first when you reach your new home. Some items that you may wish to put in this box are:
Toiletries: Toilet paper, toothpaste and toothbrushes, soap and other essentials
Kitchen Items: Paper plates, cups and utensils, pans, can opener, coffee, coffee pot, paper towels
Tools: Screwdriver, pliers, flashlight, telephone
- Designate one drawer of a dresser for sheets and towels so that you will have ready access to these essentials the first night in your new home.
- After you have thoroughly cleaned and dried the inside of your refrigerator, put a fresh box of baking soda or an open can of coffee inside to keep the interior smelling fresh.
Protecting Your Belongings:

- Place pictures in boxes between sheets and blankets to give them added protection.
- Plates and record albums should be packed on end vertically, rather than placed flat and stacked.
- Remove bulbs before packing your lamps.
- When moving plants to your new residence via your car, try not to let foliage rest against the windows, as the leaves will scorch or freeze.
- Upon arrival at your home, let your electrical appliances and electronics (TV's, VCR's, and computers) 'acclimate' to room temperature before plugging them in.
Documents and Other Personal Items:

- Keep copies of your bill of landing and inventory sheets
- Pack your current phone book to take with you. You may need to make calls to residents or businesses back in your former hometown.
- Before the van foreman leaves for your destination residence, given him a phone number where you can be reached. It is also a good idea to provide an alternate contact in case you cannot be reached.
Please be aware that items of negotiable value or articles of extraordinary value should not be placed in the moving van. You may want to contact your home owner's insurance provider, or call us for more details on how to arrange safe transport of these items.
